City College at MSU Billings is offering an accelerated welding and metal fabrication associate degree—traditionally a two-year program—in just 18 months with a January starting date.

The free information session will be held Thursday, Dec. 3, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., at City College, 3803 Central Ave.

MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES —  City College at MSU Billings will hold an informational session on Thursday for future students interested in starting class in January.

The free session will be held from 6-7 p.m., and will share information about the college’s comprehensive two-year associate degree and certificate programs with an option to begin mid-year, including welding, process plant, sustainable energy, human resources, business administration, general studies and other short-term courses.

New to this year, students can earn an accelerated welding and metal fabrication associate degree—traditionally a two-year program—in just 18 months with a January starting date. Students also have the option to earn in four months a certificate of technical study.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for motivated students to save a great deal of time and money and get a jump-start on their education and career goals," said Stephanie Cowen, City College’s director of Student Services.

Faculty, staff and advisors will be on hand to answer questions about program offerings and to assist future students with admissions and financial aid.

“Spring can be a great time to get a jump start on some general education courses to help build the foundation needed to complete your degree or certificate,” Cowen said. “Our faculty, staff and administration are here to help support students from the prospective stage all the way through commencement.”

City College was established in 1969, first as the Billings Vocational-Technical Education Center, and has since evolved to a comprehensive community college offering 18 Associate of Applied Science degrees; two Associate of Arts degree; five Associate of Science degrees; a ASN registered nursing program; and 11 certificate of applied science programs.

The college serves more than 1,400 students, and provides training and continuing education classes to some 2,000 students from several different industries.
